Name: Agent Maine | Headcanon name: Colm, last name unknown.
Series: Red vs Blue
Timeline: Season 9, Episode 17: "Spiral"
Canon Resource Links:
So, for the canon blind, Red vs. Blue is a machinima series based in the Halo Universe, which is why I've included a link from Halo.
Agent Maine on the RvB wiki. Please note that he is being pulled from before Sigma's implantation, so things that refer to him as "the Meta" haven't happened yet..
Project Freelancer on the RvB wiki.
Another good link is one on the Spartan program because I headcanon that Agent Maine was one of the surviving wash outs from the Spartan program. It actually cuts down on headcanon and the potential conflicts with other players that an intricate headcanon backstory can cause. Otherwise, I've taken no liberties with his history, aside from supplying him with a first name.
Personality:
Maine is extremely reticent. He doesn't like to waste words or even syllables. He's very comfortable with silence, and he's not comfortable with talking a lot... or feelings... or people. Unlike all the other known Freelancers, he's never shown simply hanging out with various members of the Project. He generally prefers solitude, and yet, no one holds it against him.
He's violent, but Maine goes further than most of the other Freelancers. "Some" violence is to be expected when you're in a military secret ops team; Agent Maine's favorite weapon is half grenade launcher/half big ass knife (the Brute Shot). He's been groomed to be ruthless for as long as he can remember, and Maine is stone cold in his decisions. For example, when Agent Texas showed up at PFL, Maine identified her as a threat to his high rank amongst the other Freelancers after she beat a trio of the top-ranking agents (including himself). At this point, he joined with Agent Wyoming in using live ammunition in the training room, in order to kill her before she could do any damage to his status. A lot of this won't apply in Victory Road, to be sure, but he's also happy just punching people in the face. Or stomach. Wherever.
Maine works incredibly hard. He goes full tilt when he's after something, and everyone knows it. The other Freelancers use Maine as a distraction for an entire building full of enemy soldiers, while two of them - two of them - comment that they almost feel bad for the other guy.
This segues into another particular trait: stubbornness. He is doggedly stubborn, and he does not let go once his metaphorical jaw has locked. It can make him a bit juvenile, as when he complained that a jump was 'too high' and forced another agent to kick him off the roof [He was fine, and everyone knew he'd be fine, but he kinda had a point BECAUSE SHE KICKED HIM OFF A SKYSCRAPER]. Coupled with his ambition to be the best, is it any surprise that he tried to shoot Texas as mentioned above? Not so much, no. He's a terrible loser, and it's compounded by the fact that Agent Maine doesn't fail [ever, in his head; not often, according to the Freelancer rankings]. He doesn't like to be on the receiving end of help, as seen when he swats away medical assistance when he's been beaten badly in training.
His world is black-and-white, and very few people are afforded the opportunity to earn his respect. Once they have it, though, he is incredibly loyal and even protective. It's important to note that Maine isn't a psychopath or a sociopath. There are at least two people that he has some level of kindness towards for more than a personal gain. One is Agent Carolina, who he takes a bullet for, and the other is Agent Washington, although the mercy showed in that case hasn't happened at his pullpoint. I think it's still relevant, because anything shown past this moment in his life is Agent Maine under the increasing influence of the dominant AI Sigma. Despite this, he spares Washington's life twice, at a time when he's killing friends and foe alike.
Wash and Maine are implied to have been friends, which would have an odd couple sort of appeal. Maine tolerates young Wash's stupid joking color commentary better than the other Freelancers, and, again, past this specific pullpoint, Wash seems to know how Maine thinks well enough to interpret the grunts and groans that Maine communicates with after his injury.
He has a sense of humor, though. He puts up with Wash, after all, and there's also the instance where he helps an enemy soldier up by extending her fellow soldier's robotic arm and then... pitches her to her presumed death. Well, he thought it was funny.
I'm not sure where to put it, but I thought I should point out that Agent Maine is something of a physical beast. It's not a power (Red vs Blue doesn't have non-armor or AI based powers), but he's definitely more durable than the average Freelancer. It might be a stubborn refusal to die; it's unclear. He is also ridiculously strong.

[ Maine is sitting in the shade of a tree. His Flabébé, now called Ragweed, is on his lap because he has given up, okay? The stupid thing won, but he will never say it. Never. It's lucky he didn't stick with his original name for it, but he was sick of waiting for the various Poke-vet techs to get over their righteous indigence over one measly curse word and treat the blasted thing for "fainting". Again. Again.
The stupid rat-faced thing that Rags had fought wasn't even that big! Maine only wanted it because it had teeth. It wasn't a flower, okay, and then he could give Ragweed to anyone and still have another pet to deal with... pet things, because here in hell humans are more useless than ever.
He takes out his PokeGear (he is going to start calling everything poke- now. PokeBacon. PokeSteak. PokeHam. Are pokemon food?) and types out a message. ]
